ABOUT OUR JANUARY GUEST, CHRISTEN HAILEY
Christen Hailey is a rare bird, a Florida native who lives in the unfashionable northwestern spiral arm of Seminole Heights with her handsome and hilarious partner. She enjoys writing horrifyingly obscene plays, silly sexy mysteries, and exceptionally raunchy sketch comedy. She is currently doing grad work on penis references in eleventh-century sea shanties and once personally pissed off the Governor. During the day, she is the Fixer for a reclusive rich dude who owns a record label. Check out her award-winning short film, Sexo y Violencia: The Secret History of Tampa, the mostly believable story of Teddy Roosevelt, Henry Plant, the Lair of the White Weasel, and the rise of the Bay Area’s eldritch and terrifying secret monarchs. #FAFO

Level One Improv @ The Commodore
CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Have fun, build self-confidence, discover your comedic voice, and make new friends in our Introduction to Improv class! In this six-week survey of the basic principles of long-form improv comedy, students will learn how to create improv scenes from scratch in a fun, fast-paced, and supportive environment. We'll explore core improv concepts such as agreement, heightening, and authenticity, and will deploy those concepts using techniques such as monologues, group games, and two-person scenes. The class will culminate in a showcase performance for friends and family at the Commodore in Ybor City. No previous experience necessary.
CLASS DATES
Class meets on Saturday afternoons from 12:00 PM - 2:30 PM for six weeks, beginning on Saturday, November 16, 2024 and ending on Saturday, January 18, 2025. There will be no class on Saturday, November 30 (the weekend after Thanksgiving.) The class graduation performance will take place on Sunday, January 19.
INSTRUCTOR BIO
Liz Marcucci is a cherished member of the Tampa Bay improv community. With over a decade of experience, she is an alumna of The Second City Conservatory, iO Chicago, The Annoyance Theatre, and the Bovine Metropolis Theater in Denver. Liz has shared her expertise by teaching at the Improv Retreat and participating in numerous intensives and camps across the United States.
Her approach to teaching, coaching, and performing centers on following the joy and embracing the unknown. Liz is dedicated to creating a supportive environment that uplifts her students, encouraging them to explore what truly makes their hearts smile and to honor that truth.
Improv, in her view, is for everyone: from the hobbyist and the teacher looking to refine their presentation skills, to the corporate professional aiming to improve in meetings, the budding entrepreneur seeking confidence in networking, and the aspiring comedian within us all.
In Liz’s class, the ultimate takeaway is, “You don’t need to be the funniest person in the room, just the most authentic.”
